Mushroom memories

Mushroom season is here.
Although I won't be hunting morels this year, I am indulging myself in mushroom memories.
You won't be surprised that these memories involve Mimi,
who delighted in this seasonal treat.
The mushroom was wonderful
but the hunt, out in the spring woods at the farm,
seeking out those hidden sites
 and finding the well-hidden treasures
ah - that was a triumph!
All the more fun with a Mimi picnic on the farmhouse porch afterwards.
Oh Mimi, I miss you in Mushroom Season!

The 95th

It is not everyday that someone turns 95.
Granddad could hardly believe it himself.
He spent the week before his birthday asking:
"Now, how old will I be on my birthday?"
"How old do you think you are?" I'd ask.
He always answered, "16!"
The event was marked in style - starting with a crown for the King of the Day.
Mimi brought a square balloon to tie on the wheelchair.
Granddad was amused and pleased to have so many Skype calls.
He really felt as if you all were right with him.
He enjoyed hugs,
and birthday cake,
and company,
and presents.
It was a fine Birthday Eve party!
On the actual Birthday Day, there was a candlelit dinner with soft music, more presents, deeply appreciated company -- and a tasty tender STEAK.
Now the crown is put away for the next birthday,
but Granddad has a new hat to wear all year.
Thanks to everyone who made his 95th a great occasion!

Easter, the end of March

We had a little Easter celebration on the last day of March.
Even if there were no turtles and frogs out in the cold pond, there were a few in the kitchen.
While Mimi told stories...
and the Man who Cooks and I brought out spring dishes...
and HoosierKitty made sure the celebration included SUGAR...
while we were warm and well fed,
the poor Gas Company Guys were down at the end of the driveway in the cold fixing a leak.

Eggs

It's time to get ready for Easter, so here's a little Easter guessing game. ONE (and only one) of the following characters has been hard at work dying and decorating eggs.

Can you guess which one?
Is it the bunny?

Granddad?

Hoosier Kitty?
Was that way too easy?

Notice I didn't take any pictures of the yellowjackets

Three friends on an outing
to eat and enjoy a view.

Two imitating the statue
set by the roadside.

One down to the lake after dinner

(actually we all went down to the lake)

The lake was low...the past six weeks of hot and dry have sucked the water level down.

There were still fish jumping.

The moon came up the shape and color of a persimmon.

We sat and contemplated both.

We listened to crickets and katydids and watched the moon until the mosquitoes settled on us.

The first full moon of Autumn shone on us all the way home.
