Positively Fourth Street

Labor Day weekend is always the date for the Fourth Street Festival of Art. Every year we notice something different.
The weather this year was incredible - sunny and cool and perfect for wandering through the streets.
We admired the whimsical
and the serious. Each year we find artists that we don't know
and ones we recognize.
You've seen one of this artist's woodblock prints on our living room wall.
Every year we add something new from the Festival.
This year we had to buy two things.
One was a wonderful raku pot made by this fine potter.
And the other a watercolor painted by this gentleman.
We took a long time deciding on the one to buy.
This was our final choice.
I think I actually have similar pieces of glass in my collection.
So, friends, next year you are all invited to join us on Labor Day weekend - put it on your calendars now - and we'll stroll the streets looking at art and listening to music and nibbling goodies from the 4th street restaurants.

The Bazaar

The annual UU Bazaar was this past weekend.
I was meeting Mimi there, and when she was late arriving I wandered around taking pictures. Here's a glass artist who makes lovely little vases.

And here's an interesting stained glass artist.
Somehow all the booths I photographed were all the glass ones.
Then around the corner I spotted yet another glass worker-
just look at the lovely things Abby is making!
Fun to see this former library kid calling her studio "Tweedle Beetle" (and you do remember which Dr. Seuss book that's from, don't you?)

Greedy

This weekend I am a glutton. I want it all.

I remember long ago pushing a shopping cart with a toddler who made up a song and sang it all through the store - "I want, I want, I want".

That's how I feel.

I want every kind and variety of tomato. I want bags and baskets of peppers and eggplants and melons and purple potatoes and sweet peaches.

I want to taste all the salsas at the salsa contest.

I want to hear all the music and dance in the street.

I want just about everything at this art fair.

I want cups from this artist and prints from this artist. I drool over Smoky Mountain prints and delicate glass vases.

Over-stimulation? You bet!

Just don't turn me loose with any money.
