Rabbit personals

Hi there!
Looking for somebunny?
You're bound to find your match here!
I'd love to chat with you, but you might check out the others here in the rabbit barn.
I'll let each of them introduce themselves.

I'm sort of suspicious of this "personal" stuff. You'll just have to prove yourself before I warm up to you.

Relationship? Stick a finger in and see what I think about relationships.

Aw, shucks. I'm the shy sort.
I'm looking for someone with a lot of patience.

I'm not making any promises...
but I'm interested.

What a jolly idea!
I'm into fun! Let's play!

You could call me the mysterious type.

She's already taken.
Look elsewhere!

This is too tiring!
I just can't be bothered.

I strongly disapprove of all of this Internet match making!
Personals indeed!

Here a chick, there a chick, everywhere...

Thanks to Ursi's blog, I approached the Poultry Barn at the Fair with a new awareness. The rows of cages featured all sorts of chickens.
I recognized some of the names: Buff Orpington, Wyandotte, Rhode Island Red, Cornish...
Many of the hens had produced an egg to display in their cage.
The 4H kids went around gathering them up.
It was way too hot to leave eggs out!

Most of the roosters were active and noisy,

Although some didn't bother to get up to crow.

Some had too much time on their hands - er, beaks - and spent it nibbling on their tags.

Others strutted about as much as they could in confined quarters, showing off their incredible feathers.

The crowing and clucking was pretty much continuous, making this the loudest of the various animal barns.

Besides admiring the wonderful patterns and colors in the feathers ( which I have always done at the fair)

I found myself wondering what the story was behind each chicken.
Thanks to Ursi, I can now imagine some of those tales.

I went to the Animal Fair

The county fair is a 4-H fair so the animals are all raised, trained and shown by kids. The animal barns are full of both beasts and 4-H kids and wonderfully interesting places to stroll and observe.

It was a hot afternoon and many of the animals were resting when we went past.

The cows spread out when they lay down and become huge blobs of animal.

The sheep seem slightly embarrassed by the clothing that keeps them clean for showing.

Naturally I found good literary references for many of the critters.

Here's baa, baa, black sheep - without any wool.

You knew Wilbur would be there -

and the 4H kids made sure Charlotte was too.
The spider was rigged on a line that could be pulled from several stalls away - and allowed to drop in front of passers by. The inevitable jump was greeted by howls of 4H laughter.

I found the littlest Billy Goat Gruff...

The middle sized Billy Goat...

...and the big billy goat, just looking for a troll.

Of course, the people were just as fascinating as the animals -

maybe more so - but I couldn't snap pictures of them to post.
More from the Animal Fair later.
