Winners

The Horse Park is home to many retired champions - race horses everyone has seen win the Kentucky Derby as well as champions in less well-known aspects of the sport.

We wandered through their quarters admiring these now-out-of-the-spotlight winners.

We were also thrilled to be on hand for the winners in the competitions we watched.

The World Equestrian Games are like the
Olympics.

Many countries are represented by their very best athletes.

People wore their country's colors and waved their flags as they cheered their riders. Here is the individual bronze going to a US rider.

The top awards went to the Netherlands - gold in individual

and gold in team competition.

And this is the black stallion who carried them over the top each time:
Moorlands Totillas

After watching him in three different rides, I'm willing to believe that he is really the best of the best. And we got to see him live! What a treat!

We'll drink to that

Everywhere you looked at the Kentucky Horse Park there was something to drink.

There were drinks made in Kentucky...

like bourbon

and more bourbon...

There was expensive champagne to toast the occasion. (Which we did. Also their tent had the most comfortable seats anywhere which we also appreciated after walking miles and miles.)

The lemonade stand didn't sell lemonade - it sold lemonade and vodka.

Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale was a new drink for me.
There was a little beer garden to sit and listen to music and sip a beer.

Which we tried...

and it was fantastic...

too bad you can apparently only buy it in Kentucky.

Yes, all these delightful drinks were available from 8:00 in the morning until folks staggered home after the last horse show of the evening...
but could T find a place to buy a bottle of water??????
